Allen Blagden

1938 Born in New York City
 
1948 Began artistic training from his father who was an artist and art teacher at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT
 
1957 Graduated from Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, CT
 
1959-
1960
Travelled extensively in Egypt and Greece painting and sketching
1961 Awarded Fellowship to Yale University’s Summer Painting Program
Studied under Bernard Chaet
Produced several large paintings based on Egyptian sojourn
 
1962

Graduated from Cornell University with BFA degree

Illustrator for National Serengeti Park, Kenya for three months
 

1963

Illustrator for Dept of Ornithology, Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC
After a year, went to New Mexico to work as cinematographer for Denny McCoy, nephew of Andrew Wyeth for film on Billy The Kid.

Returned to CT and set up own studio to paint full time

Entered first group shows including one at University Of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, where received CT Art Foundation Annual Award
 

1964

First One Man Show in New York City at Janet Nessler Gallery
Awarded Allied American Artist’s prize for Best First One Man Show of the Year

Two-man show with his father, Thomas Blagden, at The Picture Gallery, Saint Gaudens National Site, Cornish, NH
 

1965

First of eight one-man shows at Frank Rehn Gallery in New York City
Subsequent years include: ’67, ’68, ’70, ’72, ’73, ’75, ’77
